The star has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

Fender was given the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was chosen as the top album of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages played in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money assisted locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues caused by floods, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues received monetary aid in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and fans.

"The concept that money from concerts in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to give his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

In Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, frontman Cocker announced that the act would give their cash to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award between multiple charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Two years ago, they gave their prize money to the community center that nurtured their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year the group donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"The victory was ample," said vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the trust shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in the city were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
